I seem to remember this, but can't find the old cribsheet Rob or someone posted. Maybe my search foo is getting bad as I age ;) Ubuntu/mm if that helps. No problem scripting it out for automation, I just can't remember the process.

[Or was ftp for BBS side? I used to carry DOVENet years ago.]

You don't need to change directory, if that's what you're asking.

get filename
(put wherever locally)

The downloaded QWK file should go in the Synchronet "data" directory.

Yes, it can. Log into the BBS ftp interface as your user and then GET <bbsid>.QWK or PUT <bbsid>.REP.

mm looks for it in the mmail/down directory by default. Then when you have saved written messages, the REP packets ends up in the mmail/up directory by default.

You posted your reply on the top, so the replies were actually below, not above, as you specified.. ;) On a BBS, generally the convention is to post your reply on the bottom of the quotes - so when someone replies on top, it feels a bit unexpected.

If you jumped in midstream and you're confused, here's a revolutionary idea: scroll up. It's all there. :^D This is also the reason threads go massively long at the individual message level, because people won't edit and quote irrelevant parts to their reply.

A thank you doesn't need a dissertation or a full-context replay like it's a courtroom transcript.

Now we’re dissecting posting etiquette like it's 1994 and Usenet just booted up.

Yes, it does need context. The way you did it there was ZERO indication

All I said mid thread was "Thanks Guys:" and then someone decided to be pompous and "school me" and then degrade it to name calling.

Subject said it all. I forgot the process for FTP transfer and couldn't remember if that applied to *all* message downloads or only inter-BBS traffic.

So this is how you reply? You belittle and misread the very thing you asked about - context. I clearly stated it was for snark and humor and you took it to a personal level. Not cool in the least and it goes (IMHO) against the very thing that BBSing used to be good at; Community.

The "thanks guys" needed zero context as it was a general reply to all who were helpful in the thread. If you're reading ALL New Messages, I can see how you would lose context, but that's not a me issue, that's threading not used on your end. *If* you genuinely were concerned with the topic, you could've simply moved into the correct group and followed along. Instead you decided to flame. I'll take the high road here and continue on in a constructive manner.
